European Craftsman Style Residence in Poway, CA

This beautiful European Craftsman style home blends whimsical exterior grounds with luxurious and rich interiors.

Hand selected cobble stones dance along the edges of the courtyard gardens as you’re greeted by a twinkling water fountain at the entrance of this castle-like home. As you peer through the majestic glass and iron front door, you see the rolling hills through a picture window in the entry sitting room.

Custom woodwork in the floors, cabinetry, beams, and ceilings bring warmth to the home. Plenty of natural stone reminiscent of the outside gardens can be seen scattered on the floors, walls, and counter tops. Materials such as iron, mica, and glass can be seen throughout the space in custom lighting fixtures and decorative details. As you pass through the halls, you’ll find yourself winding your way down to a cozy home theater and impressive stone wine cellar, reminiscent of European charm.

This house was built around the family with the idea that there will always be a place for the children to come home to. The courtyard was even designed to host family weddings. Although Craftsman style is not typical in Southern California, McCarter made sure to incorporate the native landscape into the design to give you a sense of place. Take your time wandering through this home, as around every corner is an unusual detail with a story behind it.

In collaboration with Old California company, Joseph W McCarter, the Principal Designer, curated this unique lighting design employing a combination of custom lighting fixtures and Old California’s standard collections.
