You can tell that this home was designed with the beautiful landscapes of Bali in mind. It’s easy to feel as if you are in paradise as you walk through this house surrounded by warm wood flooring and walls, reminiscent of an island tiki hut.
In the dining area, custom light fixtures were designed to give the feeling that you are under a tree. Glass panels with metal leaf stencils pressed between them act as the canopy above you as soft light shines down through the fixture.
In the kitchen, glass and mica were used to not only diffuse soft light into the space, but also to give the illusion that it is floating. Blown glass pendants and hand-carved screen shades pull texture and interest into the space. Additional floating ceiling panels were used in the living spaces to warm up the room and provide cohesive design.
Natural materials were of course a common theme running throughout the entire space. Balinese fish traps were even re-purposed as lighting fixtures on the outdoor patio. It’s no question this home is a tropical escape in the heart of San Diego.
